![]() It's time-saving capabilities then increase the more you repeat the same task. Whether this matters is up to you however, BatchPhoto is designed to be hands-off once you've set it up. ![]() Of course, these require some kind of intervention to a greater or lesser extent. ![]() Remember, Lightroom has lots of features that allow bulk processing, such as copying and pasting image edits or bulk exporting images. My interest in using BatchPhoto was to see how useful it was in terms of easing my workflow and saving time. Some of these - rotate, crop, contrast, and gamma - come with automatic versions that can apply some logic to their processing. So, what sorts of features does it have? As you'd expect, import, convert, rename, rotate, and resize, but then also folder watch, FTP upload, date stamps, borders, watermarks, crop, contrast, gamma, sharpen, sepia, black and white, and solarize. While XnView is an image viewer that has powerful batch editing and scripting functions, BatchPhoto is built from the ground up to process large quantities of photos and undertake complex, repeatable tasks that can be left to complete unattended. In this sense, Photo Mechanic isn't really a competitor, whereas the freemium XnView ( which I've reviewed before) is. In their own words:ĭo you have repeatable and predictable actions to apply to your massive photo collection? Since 2005 we've been working to make BatchPhoto the best tool for automating those repeatable actions! Enter BatchPhoto, which narrows its focus to one specific area: batch editing. It is blisteringly fast at reviewing photos, allowing you to review, import, and then perform some gross batch editing tasks (such as exporting, renaming, and uploading). Perhaps the most well known (and oldest?) product in this area is Photo Mechanic, with many pros using it to cull and rank images, which is where it really shines. The one area which Adobe hasn't targeted is what I broadly term rapid asset management (RAM), probably because it is a relatively small market of pro photographers who need to quickly process large quantities of images to deliver to a paying customer. With the world awash with image editors of varying degrees of competency and cost (Serif Affinity Photo,, Corel Paint Shop Pro, and GIMP), Adobe's move to a subscription model caught the DAM market off-guard. Editing functionality was originally more limited (and tended to be global), with pixel-based editors such as Photoshop doing the heavy lifting when needed, round-tripping them back to the DAM when finished. DAMs are epitomized by Adobe's Lightroom and are intended to bulk import photos from a memory card and then provide a way of cataloging them for better photo management. Software to accomplish this generally falls into one of two broad categories: digital asset management (DAM) or image editing. Once you've captured images on your camera, you need to produce some kind of end product from them.

Google Drive may be less useful because the free 15GB includes your Gmail (and I have 14GB of that), and because it’s easy to lose files. Amazon customers get 5GB of free online storage, or 20GB for £6 per year, while Amazon Prime “now includes free storage in Amazon Drive for your entire photo collection”. You already have OneDrive, and Amazon would be a good addition. However, you’d lose the main attraction, which is storing and sharing files associated with your main email account, and/or documents created with the associated online word processors, spreadsheets etc. In theory, you could just open lots of email accounts and get free storage with each one. This includes Microsoft’s OneDrive, Amazon Drive, Google Drive, and Apple’s iCloud. Most people use cloud storage that’s bundled with other services. (For example, I used Copy, which closed on May 1.) Alas, they are not all reliable, and they quite often change their terms of service, or leave the business, voluntarily or not. Hard drives are cheap, so there are dozens of cloud storage services. “Cloud storage” just means somebody else’s hard drive, accessible via the internet at much slower speeds than a local hard drive. However, if you’ve ignored the problem for a year, you can’t really complain if the worst happens.) Alternative cloud stores (Note that Microsoft says “may” not “will”. If you still haven’t done anything, Microsoft says “your content may be deleted”. Microsoft says: “That means that you will not be able to access the content in your OneDrive until you take action.” It doesn’t say what action you have to take, but I’d guess it involves selecting which files or folders to delete.Ĥ. If you are still over quota after another nine months, your OneDrive account will be locked. However, you will still have nine months to download your files.ģ. If you are still over quota after 90 days, you will no longer be able to upload any files. Your account will function normally for 90 days, to give you plenty of time to download any data that you don’t already have backed up.Ģ. However, when it happens, users who are over quota will be notified by email that they have one year to download their data. Hundreds of millions of OneDrive accounts are involved, so it will take weeks to roll out the new system. (Office 365 includes Microsoft Office software as well.) Alternatively, you could buy 50GB of OneDrive storage for $1.99 a month. This normally costs £59.99 a year, and is good value if you need that much storage. People who were actually using more than 5GB of storage – which is a very small minority – should also have had an email offering a free one-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal, which includes 1TB of storage. I can only assume you missed the offer, which closed on January 31. It was quick and easy, so I can’t imagine why anybody wouldn’t do it. ![]() To keep your storage, you had to click a link in a Microsoft email, then click a button to take up the offer. ![]() ![]() Over the last hundred years the amount of English-lexifer based creoles in West African countries currently being used as primary and secondary language has increased greatly, with speakers currently exceeding one hundred million. During the rise of African nationalism, it became a "language of resistance and anti-colonialism", and political activists still use it to criticize their post-colonial political leaders. Īs of 2017, about 75 million people in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and Equatorial Guinea speak the language. In 2016, there was an estimated five million individuals who use Pidgin as a primary language for everyday use in Nigeria. Looked down upon during the colonial era as a bastardization of proper English – a stigma still attached to it by some – Pidgin nonetheless remains in widespread use. Many distinct regional variants of the language emerged. Those who visit Africa in a cursory manner. Matthews refers to West African Pidgin English as a "jargon", and he warns Europeans coming to Africa that they will fail to understand the Africans unless they recognize that there are significant differences between English and the coastal pidgin: Ī British slave trader in Sierra Leone, John Matthews, mentioned pidgin English in a letter he later published in a book titled A Voyage to the River Sierra-Leone on the Coast of Africa. They called it the "Coast English" or the "Coast Jargon". The existence of this influential language during the slave trade era is attested by the many descriptions of it recorded by early European travelers and slave traders. Others call it "Guinea Coast Creole English" to emphasize its role as a creole native language spoken in and around the coastal slave castles and slave trading centers by people permanently based there. Some scholars call this language "West African Pidgin English" to emphasize its role as a lingua franca pidgin used for trading. At that point, it became a creole language. Later in the language's history, this useful trading language was adopted as a native language by new communities of Africans and mixed-race people living in coastal slave trading bases such as James Island, Bunce Island, Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle and Anomabu. The language quickly spread up the river systems into the West African interior because of its value as a trade language among Africans of different tribes. Later, as British merchants arrived to engage in the slave trade, they developed this language in combination with local African slave traders in order to facilitate their commercial exchanges. Portuguese merchants were the first Europeans to trade in West Africa beginning in the 15th century, and West African Pidgin English contains numerous words of Portuguese origin such as "sabi" (to know), a derivation of the Portuguese "saber". West African Pidgin English arose during the period of the transatlantic slave trade as a language of commerce between British and African slave traders. These include Sierra Leone Krio, Nigerian Pidgin, Ghanaian Pidgin English, Cameroonian Pidgin English, Liberian Pidgin English, the Aku dialect of Krio, and Pichinglis. īecause it is primarily a spoken language, there is no standardized written form, and many local varieties exist.
